Gertrude Sant

SCHENECTADY – Gertrude Ruth Koch Sant, 95, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2006. She was born on October 4, 1911 in Schenectady and was the daughter of the late J. George and Elise Graske Koch, Sr. Gertrude married Harold W. Sant in 1935. He predeceased her in 1986. Mrs. Sant retired from the N.Y.S. Dept. of Taxation & Finance in July of 1973. Gertrude was a faithful member, Sunday school teacher and AWANA leader for many years at Peoples Baptist Church in Colonie, which in recent years became Calvary Baptist Church. When it became too difficult for her to travel to Albany for services, she transferred her membership to Lighthouse Baptist Church in Schenectady. She made a continuing effort, even in her later years, to memorize Bible verses. She especially loved Psalm 34, which she could recite nearly perfectly from memory. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Joan C. Sant, her sister, Elsie Koch Shufeldt and her brother, Herbert Koch. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by three brothers, J. George Koch, Jr., Arthur Koch and Walter Koch and a sister, Elizabeth Koch Pierce.
Funeral services will be Friday at 12:00 noon at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A calling hour will precede the service from 11:00 to 12:00 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden.
