Gino Stirpe, 82, of Keyes Avenue died suddenly on Friday, January 24th, 2006 at his residence. Born in Frosinone, Italy, the son of the late Costantino and Annuziata Stirpe, he immigrated to the United States at the age of 7. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army Air Force 242nd Division during WWII in England. He graduated in 1950 from RPI with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. For 36 years, he worked at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory and at Lockheed, retiring in 1986. He was a communicant of St. Helens Church in Niskayuna.
Gino was passionate about nature, family, philosophy and beating the stocking market. He loved family camping trips on the islands of Lake George and swimming in the ocean. He was always there to listen, guide and love his family and friends. He loved to engage in a lively philosophical discussion.
He is survived by his x-wife Vivian Stirpe, his daughter and son-in-law Gina and Trevor Schneider, their children Wendy, Nancy, Andy, Stephen, and Mary, his daughter Linda Stirpe, his son Jay Stirpe, his son and daughter-in-law Paul and Nanette Stirpe, their children Nanette, Peter, Victoria and Sofia, his sister and brother-in-law Donna and Frank DeFrank, and his brother Don Stirpe. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Friday morning at 9:00 at St. Helen's Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon National VA Cemetery in Schuylerville.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions are suggested to the Musoma Society c/o the funeral home. The Musoma Society was founded by Gino's daughter, Gina. All proceeds are directly applied to the healthcare and education of the needy in Tanzania, Africa.
