Gladys Jones

NISKAYUNA-Gladys Rose (Stross) Jones passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by family. She was 88 years old when she succumbed to complications from a long-term illness that she fought for many years.

Gladys, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Stross, was born on December 9, 1926 in Hartford, CT. She was one of six children, with two brothers and three sisters. She graduated from Windham High School in 1944 and went on to attend NYU, completing her Master's in Nursing. She married Henry F. Jones, Jr. in March of 1950 and started a family of her own with three children and three grandchildren, whom she cherished. Gladys worked as an operating room nurse for 30 years at Ellis Hospital, where she was known to many due to her passion and dedication. She retired at age 62 and her grandchildren became her highest priority. She enjoyed golfing, shopping, traveling and spending time laughing with family.

Gladys is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Henry Jones; her sister Nancy Goodell; three children, Jeffry, Russell and Nancy Jones; three grandchildren, Dyllon Jones, Dr. Brittany Simone and Shannan Costello; and several nieces and their families.

Funeral services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church on Palmer Avenue, Schenectady, NY 12309. Her strength and perseverance lives on through her family.
