Loudonville- Gladys L. (Beckert) Perkins, 89, died on Sunday, November 26, 2006, at the Julie Blair Nursing Home. Born in Albany, she was a lifelong Capital District resident. She retired from the New York Telephone Company (now Verizon) in the 1980's after 28 years where she also served as a union representative. Mrs. Perkins was a three time president of the VFW Post #729 Women's Auxiliary in Watervliet and a past council president of the Albany County Council. Mrs. Perkins also volunteered with the Stratton VA Hospital in Albany and served as treasurer and president of the E.W.C. Little Memorial Park Association in Loudonville for many years. Gladys is predeceased by her first husband, Herbert J. Beckert who died in 1980 after 41 years of marriage, and her second husband Harold J. Perkins, who died in 2001 after 19 years of marriage.
Mrs. Perkins is the mother of Joan M. Kurtzner of Albany and Carol A. Knapp of Poughkeepsie, and the sister of Mary Wollschlager of Seminole, FL. She leaves behind two grandsons, Mark L. Kurtzner of Albany and L. Scott Kurtzner of Tampa, FL and two great-granddaughters, Arianne Lynn Kurtzner and Emily Catherine Kurtzner, also of Albany.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice, in memory of Gladys L. (Beckert) Perkins. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.newcomerfamily.com.
