Gladys Mae Simons (Irish) entered eternal life on February 13, 2021 at Mount Dora, Florida with her daughter Bonnie at her side. Gladys was born and raised in Rensselaer, New York, and in 1954 married Clayton Edward Simons. During her husband's service in the Air Force, Gladys and Clay lived in Biloxi, Mississippi, where her daughter Kathy was born, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where her daughters Bonnie and Patty were born.
In 1961, with three daughters under the age of 5, Clayton tragically lost his sight, and the family relocated back to Albany, New York. Gladys's resilience during her husband's long rehabilitation, and her determination as they started their own business and raised their family was remarkable. In 1972, Gladys and Clay welcomed their son Clayton Jr. into the family. Gladys raised her family in Colonie, New York and upon retirement moved to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1990.
Gladys devoted her life to her husband and her family, and they will forever cherish the many memories they have of Mom/Gram, especially the many wonderful times the family gathered at their summer home in Wells, New York. Gladys is survived by her three children: Bonnie Morrell (Donald) of Eustis Florida, Patricia Lane (Robert) of Glenmont, New York, and Clayton Simons Jr (Lisa) of Daytona Beach, Florida. Her oldest daughter Kathy tragically predeceased her in 1976. Gladys is the loving Grandmother to her 10 grandchildren; Tina, Donny, Lori, Sydney, Harrison, Veronica, Olivia, Dylan, Katlyn and Nicholas and 10 great grandchildren; Wyatt, Kai, Harper, Damien, Elijah, Carter, Benjamin, Austin, Jeremiah, and Genevieve.
Because of Gladys's love for her dogs through the years, in lieu of flowers make a donation to an Animal Shelter near you.
Because of Covid the family will have a private graveside service. A memorial service will be held at a time when it is safe for family and friends to travel.
