Gordon E. Clickman

September 5, 1948 — February 1, 2013

COLONIE – Gordon E. Clickman, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2013 after along and extremely courageous battle with cancer.
He was born September 5, 1948, the son of the late Lena and Earl Clickman. Gordon grew up in Altamont and graduated from Guilderland High School. He earned a bachelor's degree at SUNY Albany in geology and a second bachelor' s degree in Civil Engineering at Union College. Gordon worked for NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation for 35 years, retiring in 2007. Throughout his life he was known by family and friends to have an avid love of auto racing and water sports and to display an exceptional appreciation of nature. For the past few years, he enthusiastically attended weekly breakfasts with a group of former race car drivers, mechanics and supporters of auto racing. He had recently become a member of the Northeast Stock Car Racing Old Timers. Gordon's enthusiasm for auto racing began at an early age at the Altamont Racetrack. As he got older, he visited racetracks such as Victoria, and Fonda Speedway. He routinely enjoyed races in New York Pennsylvania and Florida.
Gordon's love for water sports included boating, tubing, water skiing, fishing on numerous New York State lakes and rivers and attending offshore powerboat races and other boating events. He had operated a marina at Lake George for several years and often attended powerboat poker runs in Alexandria Bay. Since his retirement, Gordon has thoroughly enjoyed the quiet and solitude of living on the edge of the Pine Bush as well as the exceptional glimpses of nature that it provides.
Gordon is survived by his sister, Barbara White of Scotia, two nephews, a niece, several grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins and numerous friends.
His family and friends wish to thank the Hospice staff members who worked so hard to give him the best quality of life possible during his last months.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday evening from 4 to 7 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302 in memory of Gordon E. Clickman.
