Grace Mcdermott

COLONIE –Grace McDermott, 73, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014 at home with her family by her side. Born in Shandaken, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Wood.

Grace worked as a secretary for New York State Department of Environmental Services. In her free time, she loved gardening and flowers. Grace made a lot of friends in Colonie, Ocean Woods, Florida and Woodstock Lake community while walking her dog, Mugsy. She also enjoyed traveling the country with her husband in their fifth wheel.

Grace will be missed by her husband of 45 years, Steven W. McDermott; children Aaron and Laurie McDermott of Rensselaer, Daniel and Tanya McDermott of Los Angeles, CA, Scott and Dawn McDermott of East Berne, and Stephen and Christine McDermott of Rensselaer; siblings Fred Wood, Harold Wood and Elizabeth Wood; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Grace's memory be made to The Grace McDermott Memorial Fund to benefit her grandson Jacob McDermott's heart transplant fund, in the care of Capital Communications Federal Credit Union, 18 Computer Drive East, Albany, NY 12205.
