Grace D. Morton

August 12, 1925 — January 1, 2025

Cohoes

Grace D. Morton, 99, passed away on January 1, 2025, at Eddy Village Green in Cohoes, New York, following a brief illness. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island on August 12, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Harry and Hazel Dobson. Grace’s first ex-husband, Anthony S. Harrison and her second ex-husband, Joseph Morton, and her brother, Louis Paul Dobson, all predeceased her.

Grace graduated from Barnard College, and instilled in her six grandchildren her love of education. They each obtained a post-graduate degree. Grace held numerous administrate and executive secretary positions during her working career, and excelled in organizing, maintaining meticulous records, and correcting grammatical errors.

A devoted environmentalist, she advocated for clean air by writing letters and grants to halt the building of Inter-Power coal-fired power plants in the Hudson Valley in the early 1990s. Grace proudly received the Sierra Club Hudson Mohawk Group’s Volunteer of the Year award in 1992 for her environmental advocacy work on this campaign. Grace also had a strong interest in documenting her family’s genealogy, and preserving the memory and larger-than-life, glamorous lifestyle of her beloved Aunt Cornelia.

Grace’s survivors are her sons Daniel P. Harrison (Lynne Oudekerk) of East Greenbush, New York, and Andrew M. Harrison (Joni) of Ormond Beach, Florida, and daughter-in-law Diana Harrison (Hopkinton, New Hampshire). Survivors are also her grandchildren, Mark Harrison (Tawana Lewis), Laura Harrison (Sean Kernan), David Harrison (Ana), Alex Harrison (Heather), Peter Harrison, and Rebecca Yonce (Chase), great-grandchildren, Rowan Harrison, Caleb Harrison, and Boden Yonce, and sister-in-law, Nancy Dobson.

Funeral services and internment will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Sierra Club Hudson Mohawk Group or your favorite charity in her memory.
