COLONIE- Grace M. Butler Rudy, 73, of Colonie, passed away on Wednesday August 1, 2007 at St. Peters Hospital. She was born December 27, 1933 at Basset Hospital in Cooperstown and was the daughter of the late Herbert Small Stannard and Gladys Palmer Stannard.
As a youngster, Grace was very active in 4-H and won several awards. She graduated from Cherry Valley High School in 1953 and then to New York Singer Sewing Machine School and McDowell's School of Fashion and Design. She helped design costumes for the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes. Grace first married Richard Butler in 1960. She then graduated from SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Oneonta where she was the vice-President of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Grace taught home economics in the Richmondville Schools. She was named director of SCCAP in Cobleskill and then became the director of Schenectady County Nutrition Program for the elderly. Grace was a member of the Cobleskill Hospital Auxiliary for many years and was a former Board member of the Cooperative Extension. She traveled to China and visited the great wall as well as other attractions. Grace married James Rudy in 1986 and he predeceased her in 1993.
Grace is the beloved mother of Craig Butler and his wife Amy of Cobleskill. She is the sister of Warren Stannard and Marion Holmes both of Cherry Valley. She is the grandmother of Ali, Brody, Nicole and Danielle. Beloved aunt of Doris Hill, Julie Stannard, Earl Holmes, Cliff Holmes and Stephen Holmes and their families.
Funeral services will be Saturday August 25, 2007 in Albany at 10:30 AM at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.).
