COLONIE – Grace T. MacFarlane, 91, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Albany County Nursing Home.
Grace was born on June 26, 1917 in Deposit, NY and was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary E. (Houghton) Thomas. She worked as a secretary, first for the Niskayuna School District then the Schenectady School District. She enjoyed traveling, antiquing braiding rugs, and enjoyed crafts in the Rise Program at Albany County Nursing Home as well as doing word search puzzles and playing cards. She also did volunteer work with the Box Project for the Appalachians and later with the Gleaners in Canandaigua. Her love of her life was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Grace is survived by her children, Robert (Mary Jane) MacFarlane, Susan Smith and Eugenie (Charla Cook) MacFarlane; her sister, Mary Elizabeth "Bissy" (Ed) Nitschke; her brother, Peter (Mary) Thomas; her grandchildren, Todd, Kim, Heather, Bill, Debbie and Gardner; 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert MacFarlane; her sister, Martha Harris and her brothers, John, Leonard and Robert Thomas.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Albany County Nursing Home for their care and to Community Hospice of Albany for their care given to Grace in her final days.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service Saturday at 2 pm at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.).
