TROY- Gustave A. "Gus" Schoonbeck, 92, dies at Diamond Hill Nursing Home, in Troy, NY. Born on November 29, 1923, he was the son of the late Jan and Ann M. Schoonbeck.
Gus was a graduate of both Hackett High School in Albany and Hudson Valley Vocational School (HVCC) in Troy. He has been a resident of Kennedy Towers since 1975. Gus was a decorated WWII Veteran serving in the US Navy Seabees in the Pacific Campaign. Gus also liked to read, hunt and collect coins.
He was employed and retired from New York State Civil Service over the last 25 years as a maintenance person for Kennedy Towers in Troy New York.
He is predeceased by his siblings; John W., Fred (Marion) W. and his sister of Billie W. George.
He is the beloved uncle of John, George, Donald, Frank, Steven, and Judith Schoonbeck. He is also the uncle of Shirley, David, Billy, Carol, Susan and Patty.
Interment will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville, NY on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at 11:00am.
Gus throughout his life was a very charitable giver, and in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box, 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220.
