Albany- Gwendolyn (Gwen) Elizabeth Sheldon, 67, was unexpectedly called home to the Lord on August 29, 2017 at Hudson Park Nursing Home, where she resided for the past 2 years.
Gwen was born on March 24, 1950 in Chatham, New York to the late Herbert L. Sheldon, Sr. & Sylvia E. Benson-Sheldon. She adored them both so dearly.
After graduating from Chatham High School, Gwen was employed as a telephone operator then later pursued her LPN, where she put her skills to work at Barnwell Nursing Home. Prior to her early retirement, she was a dedicated employee of Eden Park Nursing Home and St. Peter's Hospital for several years. With a beautiful smile and caring heart, Gwen enjoyed spending time with family and helping anyone in any way possible. There were so many great things about Gwen from her cooking to her talent of poetry writing. In her latter years, she loved coloring, crossword puzzles and stuffed animals.
She is predeceased by three sisters, Sandra & Donna Sheldon as well as Isabelle Sheldon-Windom. Also to predecease her is one grandchild: Jalissa Nesmith as well three brother-in-laws: Noah Blount, Douglas Griffin, Sr. & Geoffrey Windom, nephew: Corey Sheldon & great-nephew: Shyaire Sheldon.
Left to mourn her passing are her loving & dedicated children: Lisa M. Gilbert, Jason L.B. (Tarabia)Pounds, Sr. & Bryan M. L. (Elsyda) Sheldon, grandchildren: Joshua Nesmith, Jason Nesmith, Moenasia Pounds, Jason L. B. Pounds, Jr., Jada Pounds, Liliquoy Gilbert, Nyzair Sheldon, Matthias Taylor, Kennedy & Ella Sheldon as well as great-grandchildren: Nasir Nesmith, Jay'Mar Nesmith & Sa'arie Nesmith. Also left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Herbert L. (Doreen) Sheldon, Jr., Lorraine Blount, Anita Griffin, Arthur Sheldon, Melissa (Carlos) Maisonet & Anthony Sheldon; Godchildren: Reginald (Marshey) Sheldon, Douglas (Naomi) Griffin & Emilio Maisonet as well a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Known as "Gwenny-Penny" & "Miss Gwen", her spunky and loving personality will truly be missed.
Visitation will be from 9 am to 11am on Saturday, September 9th at Capital Church, 31 Vly Road, Colonie. A funeral service will follow at 11am.
Donations in her memory can be made to organizations that treat mental illness, diabetes and/or heart disease.
