Harmony L.S. Benjamin

November 8, 2010 — October 26, 2019

Benjamin, Harmony L.S. Troy, NY

Harmony Benjamin, 825 of River St., passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 26, 2019. Harmony was born in Niskayuna on November 8th, 2010 to her loving parents Jamila Burke and Daquon Benjamin. At birth, Harmony was diagnosed with 23rd 6P Chromosome Deletion to which she was not expected to live past five years old. Harmony continued to defy the odds and having such a challenging diagnosis did not stop her from fighting every day. In her short life, Harmony fought every battle with beauty, courage, and grace. Her personality was big, her smile was the light in a dark room and her laughter was contagious. Harmony loved her parents dearly and she enjoyed going on walks with her grandma Sherry, playing with her sisters and cousins, having sleepovers, going bowling for the first time and swimming on a hot summer day. Harmony loved to be in her own bed surrounded by everything Minnie Mouse. She loved to watch television with the volume on 80, and when she did not want to be bothered, she certainly let you know. Harmony had a special relationship with her cousin Jeremiah Rivera who was more like her brother.

Harmony went to school at the Langan School where she loved to beat on the pots and pans during cooking. Harmony was able to be just a kid where things that seemed impossible became possible. Harmony loved to surprise her family by taking off her diaper at the most inappropriate times.

Harmony was the true definition of our inspirational hero. She taught everyone to have patience, to live every day to the fullest, take risks, fight and speak up, always find strength within and always to take chances. Survivors include her father Daquon Benjamin of Troy; mother Jamila Burke of Troy; her grandmother Sherry Cummines who devoted the last four years of her life to caring for Harmony. Her sister Hope and Honor Benjamin and her brother Priest Seabrooks of Troy; and grandparents Sherry Cummines (Willie Stevens) of Troy, Merciful Burke of Albany, Yavette Benjamin of Troy. She was predeceased by her grandfather Rodney Dingle. Harmony was the niece of Jazmine Jackson, Kenneth Cummines, John Keys, Jessica and Jason Brace, Timethia Zeigler, Janike Benjamin and Elia, Naseef Jackson and Jamel Burke. Harmony, is also survived by her great grandparents, a host of cousins, great aunts and uncles whom she loved and loved her. Harmony will always be Grandma's best friend and Mommy and Daddy's baby girl.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Porter and Carol Winn along with Harmony's doctors and nurses at Albany Med Children's Hospital. A special thank you to Lori Beer and the Children's Health Network for there continued support.
