Colonie- Harold "Sonny" G. DeFreest passed away peacefully on October 17, 2015 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital.
The son of Harold T. and Carrie (Bailey) DeFreest, he was born on August 23, 1932 in Albany, NY. He was a proud veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War. Harold worked for the South Colonie School District until his retirement in 1995. He was a talented singer and guitar player performing for many years with his band "Sonny DeFreest and the Country Saints."
Harold is survived by his wife of 62 years Beverly (Brown) of Colonie; his children: Beverly Ann (Milo) Morse, Patricia (Glen) Roberts, Diane (Bill) Smith and Michael (Karen) Defreest; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and his brother James DeFreest.
In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by his brothers Billy and Paul DeFreest and his sister Mary Carkner.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Friday October 23 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 9am on Saturday, October 24 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
