COLONIE - Harold H. Link, 92, who placed others before himself, worked hard, lived well, loved and was loved by his family passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009, only fitting that it was Memorial Day.
Born in Cohoes, son of Rudolph and Isabelle Link, predeceased by brother Ed Link. He graduated from Kevney Catholic School and served in the Navy from 1941-1945 and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Upon his return he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Dorothy O'Donnell.
He was the father of Linda Fennimore (Dan) of Browns Mills, NJ, Mark Link (Kathy Pickett) and Kirk Link (Kimberly Lavigne) of Colonie. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jason (Heather Kyler) & Kristin Fennimore of New Jersey and Candice Link (Brenden Bedard), Troy and Kelsey Link of Colonie and great-grandchildren, Ashyln and Bailey Fenimore.
A self-made man Harold worked his way through Siena College nights on the GI bill earning a degree in accounting. In 1946 he joined Albany Felt and worked his way from accounting through Field Auditor and ultimately to Assistant Vice-Treasurer.
In 1959 Harold and Dot took their family and moved to Nicholas Drive in Colonie. It was here they found their own piece of Heaven, living the suburban dream surrounded by their many neighborhood friends and family.
An avid golfer, he played daily in his retirement continuing into his eighties. He loved to travel his whole life taking many trips here and abroad with his beloved Dot. In their twilight the couple spent many happy times in their RV traveling on their own and with other members of their RV club, "The Good Sams". He was also a past-member of the Colonie Elks. With the passing of his wife and best friend in 1991, Harold continued to travel with his children taking numerous golf trips and vacations, including trips to London, Holland and Germany where they attended Oktoberfest.
Funeral services will be held at 8:15 a.m. Saturday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Our Lady of Mercy Church, Colonie where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Memory's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
