Guilderland - Harold Richard "Dick" Horstman, aged 87, died peacefully on Thursday at his home in Guilderland, surrounded by his family.
Dick was was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 56 years, Lorraine (Smith). He is survived by his four children and their spouses: Kirk (Patricia) Horstman, Cindy (Ed) Joslin, Julie (Dan)Tidd, and Carole (Jeff) Dooley. He is also survived by his six beautiful grandchildren: Laurel, Bethany, Adam, Matthew, Kimberly, Cassandra; and two adorable great-grandchildren Charlotte and Lydia.
Dick grew up on Swaggertown Road in Glenville and graduated from Scotia High School in 1945. He proudly served his country during WWII in The United States Navy from 1945 – 1947. Dick obtained a BA degree from Siena College in 1951 and worked for Travelers Insurance Company for 38 years before his retirement. During his time in Middletown, NY he was an active volunteer fireman and a dedicated scoutmaster. He was also a longtime member of the Elks Lodge.
Calling hours for Dick will be held Saturday October 11th from 2-4 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home. A brief service will be held following the calling hours at 4 p.m.
