Harold C. Shannon, Jr.

Loudonville - Harold C. Shannon, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Harold C. Shannon, Sr. and Beatrice Fahey and was the devoted husband of 64 years to Jean M. (Spenziero) Shannon.

Harold was a member of the football team at Christian Brothers Academy and a 1st Marine Division Korean War Veteran earning a Purple Heart, when he fell madly in love with his wife and began his journey through life. He was employed at Freihofer's Bakery in Albany and then self-trained to be employed as member of the Carpenter's Union Local 291, retiring after 30 years. Harry was a long-time member of the Shaker Road-Loudonville Fire Department and also became a licensed Realtor. In his leisure he enjoyed bowling, baking, annual gardening, he was always a member of a health club, and more recently went for his walks routinely at the Crossings Park in Colonie.

He was a strong and dedicated father to his children including Michele (Joseph) Gava of Castleton-on-the-Hudson, Michael R. Shannon of Colonie, Kathleen (James) Lyons of Delmar, Cynthia M. Shannon of Colonie and Allison (William) Maselli of East Schodack. He also is survived by 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 181 Troy-Schenectady Road, Watervliet, on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held the next morning at 10:00 am, at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 5 Maria Drive, Loudonville, with the burial to take place following at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
