ALBANY- Harold V. Watrous Sr., 81, of Albany passed away suddenly on June 4, 2005 at St. Peters Hospital. He was born in Kingston and was the son of the late Leslie and Laura Henderson Watrous.
As a young man, he belonged to the Citizens Military Training Corp in Plattsburg. Harold was a WWII Army veteran having served with the 721st Railroad Battalion in India. He was a member of the UTU Union and the NRA. He had worked as a conductor with New York Central and Conrail in Selkirk for 43 years, retiring in 1984.
Harold enjoyed whale watching, hunting, fishing and recently, bird watching. He savored his wife's apple pudding and would often be in charge of peeling the just picked apples. He cherished family gatherings, picnics, taking day trips and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He was an avid gardener, taking pride in his prize rose bushes. Harold was an amateur videographer and loved to tell stories about his time spent in India. He was infamous for his short cuts that always resulted in the scenic route while traveling. He was predeceased by his two sons, Joseph Watrous and Harold V. Watrous Jr.
He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Bea Powers Watrous. He is the loving grandfather of Laura Watrous (Greg Smith) of Sleepy Hollow, NY, Leslie Lucas (Richard) of Schenectady, Harold Watrous III and Joseph (Stacie) Watrous of Portland, OR. Beloved Pa to Catherine and Zachary Lucas.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 12:30 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the service on Tuesday from 10:30 to 12:30 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Teresa of Avila Church, 435 New Scotland Ave, Albany, NY 12208.
