ALBANY – Our beloved Harriet May VanDuzen Lewis departed from this world on Wednesday March 7, 2012. She was born in Beacon, NY on April 4, 1917 to Matilda and Christopher VanDuzen.
Harriet was representative/administrator for New York Telephone for forty years before retiring in 1986. She was dedicated member of Welcome Chapel Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years. Harriett served on the church choir and worked on the outreach program and several other church boards. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was advocate for pets, active with political campaigns and volunteered with many other groups. Her legacy of love shall never be forgotten by her family and friends. Our hearts are forever entwined with Harriet's and we shall always remember the love, laughter and joy she embraced our lives with.
She is the beloved mother of Gerald L. Lewis, Robert L. Lewis, Dorine Sheldon and the late Joyce Lewis. Wife of the late Samuel Lewis and sister of the late Margaret Simon. She is the cousin of Edna Kirkland. Aunt of the Ted Henry and late Mary E. Ford. Grandmother of Kevin, Michelle, Robert, Gerald, Stacey Lewis, Salisa Brandon and Tanya Jones. She is also survived by several great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
