ALBANY – Harrison F. Dunbrook, 87, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2008 at the Albany Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Watertown, NY on June 8th, 1921 to William A. and Florence M. Dunbrook (nee Buckingham) and resided most recently at Edenburg Ave, Albany, NY. He received his Professional Engineer's license from Syracuse University in 1947 after returning from service in World War II. In 1949 he began his 25 year career with the New York State Department of transportation. After retiring from NYSDOT he went to Saudi Arabia to work for the Ministry of Communications as a Technical Advisor. In 1985 he left Saudi Arabia and went to Jordan as a Project Manager to improve road maintenance operations. He completed his career in Barbados in a Technical Advisory role and finally retired.
During his career in the Middle East he found time to travel to many beautiful places but always felt "there was no place like home". He "collected" many along the way making lifetime friendships with all who knew him. He leaves behind his beloved Betty and his diverse and cherished children. His children include Christine, John (Pam), James (Deb), George, Elizabeth (Marc) and Matthew. He also has many others that were like his own including Kim (Bernie) and the McAuliffe family. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bethany (Greig), Lindsay, Kate(Rob), Jared, Tess, Taryn, Morgan, Marianna, Emma, and Carolyn. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Organization of the Elks and a Free and Accepted Mason.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Macular Degeneration Organization or COPD International in memory of Dunny.
