Harry J. L'Hommedieu

ALTAMONT – Harry Jackson "Jack" L'Hommedieu, 86, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 after a long illness. He was born on May 29, 1927 the eldest son of George and Mildred (Jackson) L'Hommedieu of South Otselic, New York.
After graduating from South Otselic High School, Harry served in the Fourth Armored Division of the U.S. Army. After being discharged in 1946, he attended the College of Forestry at Syracuse University on the G.I. Bill. He graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture. The majority of his professional life was spent in Albany as a Landscape Architect for the State of New York.

Harry had a variety of interests, including bowling, golf, and aviation. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry Alumni Association, longtime member of the Noah Masonic Lodge #755 of Altamont, Valley of Schenectady Scottish Rites and Order of the Eastern Star.

Harry's greatest joy aside from his family was spending time outdoors and creating a woodland oasis on the family's Altamont property, where he has lived for almost 50 years.

Harry is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Norma (Follett); daughters Jacqueline McClune of Albany and Janet (Edward) Pease of Fayetteville, NY; grandsons Evan Pease of Tustin California and Sean Pease of Rochester; sister Dorothy (Robert) Hall and brother Richard (Elaine) L'Hommedieu, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Jeanne Crawford and John Leonard L'Hommedieu.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff and volunteers of the Community Hospice of Albany County and the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital for the kind and compassionate care Harry and his family received in his final days.

A graveside service will be held at Valley View Cemetery, South Otselic, NY, at the convenience of the family.
