Slingerlands- Harry K. "Poppy" Guynup, 74, devoted father, loving husband and hero to his family joined his beloved wife of 54 years Patricia in eternal happiness, on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peters Hospital. Born in Mechanicville, he was the son of the late Margaret Cannon Guynup. Harry served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a 45 year member of the Heat & Frost Insulators Union Local #40 in Albany before retiring in 1993. In his later years he worked as a greens keeper at the Course at Capital Hills in Albany. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp on Schroon River.
Harry is survived by his children, Kenneth Guynup (Veronica) of Seattle, WA., Brian Guynup (Michele) of North Greenbush, Cyndi Marsh (Donald) of Hurley, Jeffrey Guynup (Rose) of Poestenkill and Patricia Mitchell (Craig) of Lake Katrine. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his close friends Judy and Tom Pelkey and John Crowley.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at St. John St. Ann Church, Fourth Ave. at Franklin Street, Albany, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Interment will be in St. John St. Ann Cemetery, Glenmont.
