ALBANY – Hattie Eva Lee Jackson, 92, entered into eternal life peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 after battling a long illness, while residing at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center.
Hattie was born on March 26, 1916 in Greenville, SC and was the daughter of the late Oscar and Ethel Mims. She was predeceased by her late husband, Clarence S. Jackson, Jr., her brother, Reverend Harold O. Mims and her sisters, Annabelle and Edna Mims and Areatha M. Andrews.
Hattie graduated from Sterling High School and attended Morris Brown College. Unfortunately, due to illness she did not finish, but did study to be a beautician. She worked as a dietary aid at the Albany Medical Center Hospital, retiring in 1987.
Hattie was a faithful member of the Israel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Rev. Dr. Edward B. Smart, Pastor where she served as a member of the Stewardess Board, the Mary Hallicus Missionary Society, the senior choir, and was a volunteer with the Senior Lunch Program.
Hattie leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children, Kenneth, Philip, Edna and Bryant all of Albany; her sisters, Helen L. Turner of Merryville, IN and Vernell M. Alston of Newport News, Va. and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Israel A.M.E. Church. Interment will follow at Memory's Garden in Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church.
