Hector Lewis

Hector Lewis Sr., 89, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away on October 7, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 22, 1934, the eighth of ten children to Cyril and Isabella Née Waterman Lewis. Hector was a loving husband to Norma Lewis until her death in 2014.

Hector was a dedicated mechanic for the firefighters throughout his career. He was skilled and passionate about his work, always ensuring that the fire trucks were in top-notch condition to serve the community.


Hector was predeceased by his wife Norma, his parents Cyril and Isabella, his brothers Albert, Compton, Rupert, and Alvin, and his sisters Edna Pompey, Doreen Ward, Lurline Eastman, and Gloria Jones. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Carol Lewis, daughter-in-law Jennifer Lewis, and one grandson (Lennox) and one granddaughter (Petra).

He is survived by his children: Oral, Joan, Michael (Pamela), Hector Jr., Karen (Auger), Godfrey (Sheryl), Debbie (Horace), Mark (Jennifer) and Robert (Aiko). He leaves behind his sister Olwen Giddings and two sister-in-laws Millicent Lewis of New Jersey and Norma Lewis of London. Hector also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 10am to 11am, followed by the funeral service from 11am to 12pm, at New Comer Cremations & Funeral located at 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205.
