SELKIRK – Heinrich Wenzel Gruss, 79, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY, surrounded by his loving family.
Heinrich was born on January 18, 1936 in Germany and was the son of the late Wenzel and Anna (Wagner) Gruss. He studied in Germany to become a machinist and came to the United States on September 17, 1956 and became a US Citizen in 1957.
Heinrich worked for Streks and the Watervliet Arsenal before he and his wife, Elinor started the H. W. Gruss Machine Shop in 1959, which is being carried on by his eldest son, William Gruss.
Heinrich enjoyed family camping trips, loved to go fishing with many trips to remote Canada and the Florida Keys and was a soccer fan.
Heinrich is survived by his loving wife, whom he married on December 7, 1957, Elinor M. (Sabol) Gruss; his loving children, Mary Gruss, Trudy (Johnny) Martin, William (Sue) Gruss, Timothy (finacee, Noreen) Gruss, Daniel (Kelly) Gruss; his cherished grandchildren, Brian (Crystal), Michael, Robyn, Destiny, Angela, Jacob, Nicholas (Rachael), Christopher (Mary), Caitlin, Amanda, Sara, Gregory, Zackary, Jessica and Molly; his loving great grandchildren, Cody, Gavin, Carter, Brynn, Skyla, and the late Trinity. He is also survived by his K-9 companion, Buddy.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
