GAINESVILLE, FL – Helen B. Houley, 86, passed away after a brief illness on January 4, 2012 at her daughter's home in Florida. She was long time resident of Scotia.
Born on May 24, 1925 in Herkimer, Helen was the daughter of the late Theodore and Mary (Demczar) Bius. She was a graduate of Herkimer High School. Helen volunteered for various positions with the Scotia School District and became a lifetime member of the PTA. Helen and her late husband traveled extensively and visited all 50 states. In her retirement, she volunteered at the Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was also a member and treasurer of their Auxiliary for many years. Helen attended Christ the Savior Othodox Church in Ballston Spa.
Helen is predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Donald D. Houley; brother William Bius and her twin Steven "Pap" Bius; sisters, Anna Tymoczko, Olga Barna, Rosalia Choback and Juliana Bius.
She is survived by her children Donna Houley (Charles MacDougal) of Schenectady, Elizabeth "Betty" (Taylor) Mason of Scotia, Donald D. Houley, Jr. (Donna Young) of Binghamton, Deborah (Michael) Byrne of Rochester, and Kathleen (Thomas) Reif of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Charles (Julie) MacDougal, Kelly (Bradley) Lape, Amy (Andrew) Childs, Lisa Byrne and Candice Houley; great grandchildren, Chase Lape, Lily and Emma Childs. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marion Houle, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 1:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Family and friends are invited to call prior to the service from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Auxiliary, 297 Ballston Avenue, Scotia, NY, the Northeast Parent and Child Society in Schenectady, or a charity of your choice.
