Helen Louise (Murray) Jones Chambers, 91, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her three loving daughters, on the evening of Friday, March 5, 2021.
Helen was born on July 18, 1929 in Norristown, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late William and Grace (Kiziah) Murray. Twice widowed, she was the wife of the late John S. Jones and the late Richard E. Chambers, a WWII Vet and Purple Heart recipient.
Helen grew up in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, a small suburb of Montgomery County, about 20 miles outside of Philadelphia. She graduated (with a class of only five girls) from Whitpain High School in 1945.
After high school, Helen attended the Norristown Business School and became a secretary for the Norristown Bank. She then attended Madison Adventist College, best known for the creation and production of the first "soy products" that are now eaten throughout the world. After college, she then moved to Takoma Park, Maryland, where she enrolled in nursing school at the Washington Adventist Sanitarium & Hospital (now under the Adventist Healthcare system).
Helen's family joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church when she was six years old. Helen has been an active and dedicated member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church her whole life, serving in the Prison Ministries and the Adventist Community Services Center. In 2010, Helen moved to upstate New York where she completed her life's journey.
Helen is survived by three daughters, Gloria (Jones) Haake (Glenn) of Castleton, New York, Esther (Jones) Conlon of Troy, New York, Naomi (Jones) Scoville (Stephen) of Ashton, Maryland and three stepchildren Jerry Jones of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Janice (Jones) Blevins of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Sylvia (Chambers) Anderson of Spokane, Washington.
She is also survived by three grandchildren: Ashley Nicole Cross, John David Conlon, and Sandra Brittany Conlon; and five step grandchildren: Kimberly (Kipp) Smith, Damon Jones (Secret), Jason Jones (Amy), and Lucas, Katherine and Heather Anderson. She is also survived by nephew, Wayne Tull and niece Amy Murray and many grand nephews and nieces and great step grandchildren and great great step grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, sister Margaret Tull (Edgar), brother Robert Murray, nephew Ronnie Tull, stepson, John Allen Jones, and step grandson, Robert Kipp.
A viewing is scheduled for Friday, March 12, 2021 3:30pm-6:30pm at the New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. A Christian service is scheduled for Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 3:00pm at The Kinderhook Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3266 U.S. 9, Valatie, NY 12184. Please note, capacity is limited to 40 persons and everyone must wear a mask and social distance. Pastor Tony Mazzella will officiate the ceremony. The service will also be available via zoom. Details will be on the church website at www.kinderhooksda.org. The burial will take place at the George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania on Monday, March 15, 2021 for the family and friends.
