ALBANY – Helen (Josie) Callahan, 101, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 7, 2012 at St. Peters Hospital.
She was born in Schenectady and was the daughter of the late Richard (Swart) and Charlotte (Lottie) Mattice. She moved to Albany where she married her devoted husband (John P. Callahan, Sr.). She was a longtime communicant of St. George's and St. Patrick's Churches of Albany. She was a member of the Thompson's Lake Improvement Association along with the VFW Auxillary Post in Altamont, New York. She enjoyed spending summers at her cottage on Thompson's Lake. Her favorite past time's were watching John Wayne movies, singing songs and enjoying family especially her three great-grandchildren Aidan, Brady and Chase. Josie was predeceased by her husband John in 1983. She is the beloved mother of John (Jack) Patrick (Georgia) Callahan, Jr. and Geraldine Patricia Adams. She was the loving grandmother to Jennifer Rebecca (Nick) Mastroianni and Joshua John (Heidi) Callahan and her three great-grandchildren Aidan John, Brady Dale & Chase Joshua Callahan. At this time our family would like to thank St. Peter's Hospital Emergency Room and the 4th floor nurse's at St. Peter's Hospital. Also, we would like to thank Dr. Robert Kelleher and Dr. Guillermo Sosa-Suarez. A special thanks to Ms. Chinessa Ryan for her care and devotion to Josie throughout the years, the Albany Fire Department PE 10, Brevator Street Albany and the East Berne Rescue Squad. Funeral Services will be Thursday morning at 11:00am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
