Helen Jaso Kupiec, 89, left her family peacefully on March 27, 2018.
Born in Cohoes, daughter of the late Stephen and Victoria Jaso, Helen resided in Green Island from her marriage to John, throughout her entire life. They lived in the same house and raised their family there. Helen was employed by The Watervliet Arsenal upon her high school graduation until retirement; receiving many commendations for which she was very proud.
She developed her love of music while at Cohoes High School, where she participated in the marching band, playing the cymbals and snare drum. Later her music took her to The Uncle Sam Sparklers line dancers. Helen performed with them for over 20 years, bringing a smile to many throughout the Capitol Region. She also learned to golf, a bit later than most; and had a pretty good swing! She and John loved their golfing dates – especially in Florida!
She was a beautiful soul who always had a smile. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family; especially if someone else was cooking! She loved sitting on the front porch sipping her Chardonnay, talking to neighbors and waving to anyone that walked or drove by – even if she didn't know them!
Helen was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet and the former St. Joseph's Church in Green Island. She was an active member of the Green Island Senior Citizens Center, where she enjoyed lunch several times a week!
Helen was married to her Johnny, the love of her life, for 62 years; until his passing in 2014. She was a devoted mother to her son, Michael of Green Island, and her daughter Cindy (Terry) O'Leary of Wisconsin. She was a proud grandmother of Viktoria O'Leary (fiancé Josh Hanisko) and Zachary Kupiec.
Helen's brother, Stephen Jaso, sisters Paula Jaso Vianna, and Margaret (Peggy) Jaso DeConno preceeded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet on Monday, April 2, 2018. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, with services following at 11:00 am. Interment will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Waterford, immediately after the service.
A special thank you to Peggy Brennan for all her assistance; and to the caring staff at Eddy Heritage, especially Nurse Margaret. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Green Island Senior Center 20 Clinton Street, Green Island, would be appreciated.
Na Zdrowie Mom! We Love You!
