Wynantskill- Helen M. Pettit, 89, passed away on January 12, 2015 at Hudson Park Rehab and Nursing Center.
The daughter of the late Frank and Anela (Misajet) Soloway, she was born on September 13, 1925 in Troy, NY.
Helen was a very strong and diverse person. During WWII she worked in the shipyards. She had many hobbies, including: archery, golf, gardening, knitting, crocheting, wine making, and photography. She received her pilot's license as a young lady. In her fifties she earned a college degree in fine arts. She had a great love for painting pictures on both canvas and mushrooms. She also made homemade paper which she formed into art pieces.
Helen is survived by her loving daughter Christie Snyder and her son Walter F. Mucha; her granddaughter Cynthia (Jay) Ryan and her grandson Walter D. Mucha; her great-grandchildren Sean and Kaitlyn Ryan; her nephew Edward (Linda) Lewis and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband Ernest Pettit; her sisters: Irene Lewis and Mary Clement.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.
