Helen Saunders

GUILDERLAND, NY – Helen R. Saunders, 82, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at The Avenue Nursing Home, in the company of her loving family. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Helen was raised and educated in Worcester, NY. She graduated from Worcester High School in 1943. In 1945, she married her husband, Bud and they lived in Whitehall, NY until 1957. Helen and Bud moved to Port Washington, NY in 1957 and they resided there until 1983. In 1983, they moved to Guilderland where they lived for over 20 years. Mrs. Saunders was a communicant of St. Madeleine Sophie Church. She enjoyed gardening, baking and especially loved spending time with her family. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Raymond E. "Bud" Saunders. She is the devoted mother of Kathleen (John) Mahoney, Elaine (Richard) Coons, Patti Leith and Raymond E. (Kelly) Saunders, Jr. She is the cherished grandmother of John, Tim and Kevin Mahoney, Jennifer Edwards, Ben and Arron Bogen, Richard Coons, John Petracone and Karson Saunders. Helen is the loving sister of Dorothy Sawler, Peter Corless, Anna Stay, Patrick Corless and the late Michael and James Corless and Josephine Schoonover. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at 11:30 at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, Guilderland. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308 in memory of Helen R. Saunders.
