Delmar- Helen T. Horan, 97, passed away peacefully at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland on April 10, 2016 after a short illness.
Helen was born on December 19, 1918 in Albany, the daughter of the late James D. and Helen F. (Doyle) Clarke. She attended Vincentian Institute and New York State Teachers College and later was employed by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles until 1948. Helen married James A. Horan on November 15, 1947. They started their family in Albany and moved to Colonie in 1971. After raising her family, Helen returned to work for New York State and retired from the Banking Department in 1980. She was a member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband, James, a son, James C. Horan, sister Adele V. Babcock and an infant bother. She is survived by her children Kathleen (Wes) Czosnykowski of Delmar, Patricia (John) Twardowski of Colonie, Daniel Horan of Arvada, Co. and Michael (Rose) Horan of Waterford. She was the grandmother of Patricia, Michelle, John and James Twardowski, Amber (Arnie) Ruden, Leyna (Shaun) Jenkins, Sean and Jeffrey Horan, and Michael and Christopher Horan. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren: Holly and Emily Ruden, Dylan, Natalie and Brandon Jenkins and Lekaiah and Mikailan Argier.
Helen loved Broadway shows, reading, the southern coast of Maine, swimming, photography and working on the family genealogy. She was very interested in current events and politics. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends most of all. After retirement, she and Jim enjoyed traveling across the United States and to France and Ireland.
The family wishes to thank The Community Hospice, Our Lady of Mercy Life Center and Atria Delmar Place for the compassionate care that they gave Helen.
Visitation will be from 10 am to 11 am on Monday, April 18 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
