Helen T. Kosinski

March 31, 1923 — January 19, 2012

ALBANY – Helen (Chykie) Theresa Kosinski, aged 88.8, died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's from acute exacerbation of chronic respiratory illness. Born March 31, 1923 in Amsterdam, NY to the late Francis and Martha Zabielski, she was a long time resident of Albany and Lake George, NY. She had been employed at the Watervliet Arsenal during WWII, worked for many years for American Optical/Bausch & Lomb, and regretfully retired in 2009 after 30 years as a laboratory worker with the NYSDOH Axelrod Institute's Wadsworth Center Labs - a job she loved. She was a long time member of the Lake George American Legion Auxiliary and a staunch supporter of the Yankees. She even played on a softball team as young woman. Helen "Chykie", loved to travel when she could and trips to Hawaii, Brazil, Florida, and Alaska were among her favorites. She was a happy and vivacious person who always wanted to dance when the music was playing. Born to a dairy farming family she loved all animals and two regrets in her later years were that she could neither care for a pet nor grow her zinnias.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband John, who she had married in November 1942. She was also predeceased by her siblings Adam, Anthony, Sadie, Sophie (Bernard), Mary (Edward), Francis (Hilda), William (Dorothy), Edward (Joan); also many nieces and nephews including Carol, Roger, Raymond, Marian, Ronald, Dorothy, and her special Joyce, as well as many other relatives, friends, and coworkers. She is survived by her daughter, Lydia Kosinski (Jas); her sister Genevieve Warren; sisters-in-law Betty Kosinski and Dorothy Zabielski; and a host of friends, nieces, nephews, and their children including Joanne (Brian) O'Neill and Patricia, Thomas, Brian John; Richard Spratt and Katherine (aka "Dr.Kate"), Susan, Marybeth, Richard; Edward (Joann) Kosinski and Kirk, Lisa; Marlene (Ralph) Gonzalez and Raphael; Lynn (John) LaFalce and Joseph, Julie; Judith Crawford, Raymond Crawford and Jason, Greg, Mark; Walter Kosinski and Kenneth, Kimberly; Frederick (Marsha) Aspirin; Robert Aspirin; Steven Aspirin; Robin Warren; Francis Gordon; Linda Welenhofer, Nancy Nichols-Smith, Karen Zabielski, Lorraine Fournier, Joanie Brasmeister, and many others.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 9:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church (formerly St. Margaret Mary) in Albany. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Helen's request is that there be no flowers. She would rather prefer you to plant some in a nice place to help you remember her in seasons to come. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY, 12204 or Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Helen T.
