Helen T. Rores, 82, passed away peacefully at home on June 1 with her loving family by her side.
Born in Syracuse, NY, she was the daughter of Frank Thomas and Anna Thomas Moraites. She was predeceased by her husband, George C. Rores and a sister, Zoe Thomas.
She met and married George in Syracuse. In Buffalo, NY, she worked closely with her husband in the restaurant business. Eventually, they relocated to Albany where they owned and operated Mike's Restaurant and then the Gateway Diner. Helen was a communicant of St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, Albany and was an active member of The Daughters of Penelope and The Philoptochos Society where she chaired many events for both organizations. She will be remembered for her joie de vivre, her spirited ways and her willingness to help others with a smile.
Helen is survived by her loving and dedicated son, Theodore G. Rores, her daughter, Ariadne Rores, three grandchildren, Jeffrey Lynch, Amanda Jones, Danielle Williams and four great grand children. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Mia Dallas (Peter), her niece Dr. Kristina Dallas (Robert Hill) and nephew Dr. Mark Dallas (Eun Jung Choi). Helen leaves many nieces and nephews along with her sisters-in-law, Photine Rinnells and Rita Rores.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Duncan Savage and a special thanks to Community Hospice of Albany and their dedicated staff who made Helen's last days as comfortable as possible. The family will have a private funeral service and there will be no calling hours. Helen will be interned at the Gerald Soloman Saratoga National Cemetery alongside her husband, a veteran of World War II.
