Henry “Hank” J Bickel III, 78, husband of Marlee McCumber of Colonie NY passed away in his sleep on Sunday Morning February 16, 2025 at the Artis Nursing Home Yorktown, NY.
He was born August 12, 1946 in Albany, NY, he was the son of (the late) Henry J and Catherine K Bickel.
Hank attended St Vincent’s High School in Albany and Hudson Valley Community College. He worked for the State of New York Transportation Department as a Structural Engineer for over 38 years. He genuinely loved his work. Often reminisced about the bridges he built and the friends he made there.
Hank loved the outdoors. Winter was his favorite season with the snow covered mountains and crisp air. Hiking with friends & family up some of the most difficult mountains in the US. Seeing breathtaking views thru his camera lens. Taking thousands of photos. His desire was to compete the high pointer club, a challenge he nearly accomplished at 43 states.
His hobbies were photography, hiking, downhill and cross country skiing, roller blading and mountain biking. The thrill of outdoor adventures he always loved. Marlee made his life complete enjoining all the same adventures. They saw thousands of covered bridges throughout the East Coast. Living life to the fullest.
Hank was survived by his daughter Lori Fronk of Clifton Park NY, stepson Dennis McCumber (Trish) of Millwood NY, granddaughter Emma, sister Patricia Hendrick of Summerville SC, brother Paul Bickel (late Mary Ellen) of Colonie NY, brother Michael Bickel (Tracy) of Crystal Beach Fl, and brother Stephen Bickel of Ballston Spa, NY.
