Henry D. Hitchcock, 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 18, 2014 at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Henry was born in Albany, NY to the late Henry and Eleanor (Gilmore) Hitchcock.
Henry proudly served with the United States Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Niagara Mohawk after many years as a well-respected gas line welder. He enjoyed traveling, camping, wood carving, going to his water color painting class and being with his canine companion, Mike. Henry's true passion was spending time with his grandchildren and meeting with his scratch and dent club at McDonalds.
In addition to his parents, Henry was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Mary A. (Espey) Hitchcock, and his brothers Thomas and his wife Betsy and James Hitchcock.
Henry is survived by his beloved children, Henry D. Hitchcock III and his wife, Karen and Judith M. Dott and her husband, Bryan. He is the cherished grandfather of Henry D. Hitchcock IV and his wife, Amy, Heather M. Baumann and her husband, Matt, Jessica Finkelstein and her husband, Scott, Jennifer Noble and her husband, Jeremy, Katie Rose Dott, and Sharon Forkeutis. He is the great grandfather of Henry D. Hitchcock V, Gracemary and Madison Baumann and Isla and Avi Finkelstein. He is the brother of Floyd (Jane), Walter (Marion) and Mary (Bob) Pettit and his sister-in-law Deanna. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Diane Williams and the entire staff at Albany Medical Center, B3, especially Dr. Dhanani for their care and compassion given to Henry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 10:00am, at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville. Calling hours will be on Thursday, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Interment will follow the Mass in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Colonie.
