ALBANY - Henry E. Biernacki, 86, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008 at the Albany VA Hospital.
Henry was born on January 26, 1922 in Albany and was the son of the late Walter and Bernice (Chmielenski) Biernacki. He served in the US Army during WWII with Company D 301st Infantry Regiment 94th Infantry Division 3rd Army attaining the rank of Corporal. He was in the Battle of Cherbourg and the Rhineland Campaign and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. Henry was also a POW for several months and was liberated by British Troops on April 13, 1945.
Henry was a self employed master carpenter for over 40 years; prior to that he was a truck mechanic for 10 years for McCardle-Casazza Trucking Co. of Albany. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he played high school football and enjoyed watching it as well and he liked to Polka a couple of times a year.
Henry is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jayne Biernacki; his son, Lawrence H. (Carol) Biernacki of Hudson; his grandchildren, Elizabeth (John) Stegmayer of Saugerties, Christopher (Heather) Biernacki of Lenox, MA and Melissa (Stephen) Rimpici of Goshen, NY; his five great-grandchildren, Katy, Kayla, Jeremy, John Henry and Daniel; his brothers, Theodore (Irene) Biernacki and Walter (Judy) Biernacki and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley and Chester Biernacki and his sister, Mildred Radzyminski.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Interment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon- Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
