MENANDS - Henry Francis Sleasman, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3rd, 2012 at Eddy Village Green, Cohoes. Born in Loudonville, he was the son of the late Henry Jacob Sleasman and Mary Keller Sleasman.
Henry attended schools in Loudonville and Albany, and was a graduate of NYS Agricultural College (COBY) in Cobleskill, NY in 1943. He proudly served in the US Army and Army National Guard from 1944 to 1955. Henry was in the 11th Airborne Division in the Western Pacific Theater of Operations and awarded the Purple Heart. He was professed as Brother Henry Francis Sleasman on September 8, 2002 in the Franciscans of San Damiano.
Henry worked professionally in the trucking transportation industry and once retired enjoyed driving children to and from school for a local school bus company in Menands. He was an avid gardener, downhill skiing enthusiast, Eucharistic Minister at St. Pius X church in Loudonville and a longstanding member of the Watervliet Elks Club.
Henry was the beloved husband of Dorothy Bartlett Sleasman to whom he was married for 64 years. He had two children, Robert Peter Sleasman of Oakland, CA and Nancy Jean Laurin of Hoosick Falls. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jacqueline Ann Laurin, David Paul Laurin and Jonathan Andrew Laurin. Henry was predeceased by his sister Anna Mae Rudzik of New Bern, NC.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at St. Pius X Chapel, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, at 10:00 am at the church. Interment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
