Henry J. Mateja, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday February 23, 2012 at Saratoga Hospital. He was born in Buffalo, NY to the late Anslem and Catherine Mateja. He married the love of his life Helen, over 70 years ago. Henry proudly served with the United States Army during WWII. He worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad and the Norfolk and Western Railroad as a yard foreman for 35 years. While living in Albany, he co-owned a Dunkin Donuts.
Henry is the beloved husband of Helen (Miklas). He is the cherished father of Joanne (Gerald) Kaminski, grandfather of John G. (Janet) Kaminski and Nathaniel H. (Fran) Kaminski, great grandfather of Katrina, John G. Jr., Bryan, Holly, and Kara, and uncle of Robert S. (Susan) Mateja. He is also survived by many other close family members.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:30 at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville, NY 12211. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 6 PM at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. Interment will follow the Mass at the Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery, at 1:30 in Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary, 335 Doat St. Buffalo, NY 14211-2199 in Henry's memory.
