Henry Stanley Kornak, 91, husband of the late Pamela Dowdeswell of Albany, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday June 12, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Albany.
He was born May 8, 1925 in Rzeszow, Poland. Henry and his family were displaced with the occupation of Poland during World War II. After being detained in a Soviet work camp, Henry eventually was able to join the Allied Forces and served in the British Royal Air Force, traveling throughout the Middle East and eventually arriving in England during the war. After serving honorably, he married his beloved Pamela in England and they immigrated to the United States to raise their family.
Henry was employed for many years as a television technician. He enjoyed cheering for his amazing Mets as well as bowling, his rose garden and tomatoes, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and his faithful dog Charlie.
A devoted family man, Henry was extremely proud of his five children, Christine Scisci (Marino), Paul Kornak, Susan Delehanty, Richard Kornak (Janice Lagasse) and Theresa Crothamel (Bruce). He is survived by 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Henry's children would like to thank his caregiver, Joyce, for the loving care and extraordinary compassion she showed our father during the past several years.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 15, 2016, 9:30am, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.
