COLONIE – Henry W. Knost, 89, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at The Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital.
Henry was born on August 13, 1918 in Amsterdam to the late Henry W. and Rose Ann Schutte Knost. He was a large motors and generators winder for General Electric for over 35 years, before retiring in 1983. Prior to that, he worked as a signal electrician for the New York Central Railroad, and also the Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam, NY.
Henry was a 65 year member of the Free and Accepted Masons New Hope Lodge #720 in Schenectady, receiving his degree in 1942. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII from 1942 to 1946, attaining the rank of Aviation Mechanist's Mate First Class. He was stationed at Lakehurst, NJ, serving in the Lighter than Air Experimental Department. He was also a member of the Niskayuna Wesleyan Church.
Henry is the father of Joseph A. Knost and Sue A. Knost; grandfather of James Knost and Lorinda Jensis and great-grandfather of Brittany and Ashlee Jensis; and uncle of Patty Sherman, Carole Fortin, Rose Ann Kemp, Donald and Marian Richardson and Glenna Hornaday. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Lila E. Knost who passed on April 26, 2005 and his sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Percy Sherman.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Interment will follow at Memory's Garden in Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home where a Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m.
