LATHAM - Herbert Anthony Alston, 80, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at the Stratton VA Medical Center with his loving wife by his side.
Herbert was the son of the late Howard and Mae Frances (Hartwich) Alston. He was educated in the Albany school system. He was employed for 38 years at General Electric Research & Development Center in Niskayuna. He was an E6 in the 464th US Army Reserve Combat engineers and the 210th Armored Division as well at the Navy Seabee's Construction Battalion 19 of NY, serving from 1957 to 1984.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Beatrice P. (Bowler) Alston; his son, Todd H. Alston of Latham; his grandchildren, Ajanee Alston of Long Island and Chante Alston (Yasmin) of Troy; his siblings, Mary Alston of Austell, GA, Francine Cooley of Austin, TX, Ruth Alston of Bainbridge, GA, Maxine DeWitt, Leslie Rivenberg, Elaine Alston-Burden (Larry) and Paul Alston all of Albany; his Godson, Frankie Nunally and several cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kimberly A. Alston; his son, Juan A. Alston and his siblings, Bernadette, Vincent and Howard Alston.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 24th, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet. Gathering size, within our chapels will be based on the most current NYS occupancy requirements. Masks are required, and social distancing is to be observed inside and outside of our chapels.
