Herbert A. Betzwieser, 87, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024.
He was born in Wurzburg, Germany on March 2, 1937, the son of the late Alois Betzwieser and Ottilie Ruf Betzwieser.
Herbert immigrated to the United States in 1954 from Germany and has been a resident of the Albany area ever since. Herbert enlisted in the Army National Guard (1957-1964) where he was a tank commander. He was a member of the Local Carpenters Union until he was employed by the New York State Museum (1967-1995) as a Senior Museum Exhibit Specialist. Herbert’s hobbies included gardening and singing with the Hendrick Hudson Male Chorus. As a cabinet/furniture maker by trade Herbert took great pride in making furniture for his loved ones. Herbert also valued the memories he made while traveling throughout the world with his wife Micki. Above all else, he deeply cherished the time spent with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years Mildred “Micki” M. Betzwieser just 6 weeks earlier; brother-in-law, James L. Beck, Theodore R. Beck; and nephew, Frederick W. Bauer IV.
Herbert leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children: Richard (Yvette), Eric (Michele) and Tanya; grandchildren: Tyler, Krista, Julius (grand-cat), Daniel Ryan (Ashley) and Samantha Ryan; great-grandchildren: Olivia, Michael and Logan; sisters: Eleonore and Beate Eates (Frank); brothers: Guenter and Hugo (Linda); sister-in-law, Evelyn Bauer (Fred); nieces: Alicia Mein, Stephanie Sanders (Andrew) and Carole Plant (Timothy); nephews: Steve Betzwieser, and Timothy Bauer.
Calling hours will be held on October 10, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Dr, Albany, NY 12211. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Herbert’s name to WMHT.
