Herbert Earl Tedford, Jr., 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Albany County Nursing Home with his family by his side. He was born in Troy to the late Herbert E. Tedford, Sr. and Edna E. Baird Tedford. Raised in the South end of Albany, he graduated from Phillip Schuyler High School in June 1951. He joined the United States Navy, June 1951 and served from 1951 until 1955 during the Korean War on the USS Yellowstone, then enlisted into the Reserves until 1959. Upon completing 4 years, he returned to Albany and continued his training and passion for Printing at Hamilton Printing Co, and worked for Argus Greenwood, Inc. until their closing in 1980. Herb worked the last 20 years until age 76 for the Picotte Companies and in 1996 received the "Employee of the Year", award. Herb moved to the village of Colonie with his young family in 1964 until his death. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sisters Beverly Hein and Joan Dunn.
Herb was an avid Fisherman and loved the outdoors and Lakes in the North Country and loved his many faithful companion dogs from the time he was 8 years old. Which all of these passions he has passed down to his daughter and son.
Herb is survived by his wife of 51 years the former, Loretta M. Brown, his son Herbert E. Tedford, III (wife Maria) and daughter Deborah A. Tedford-McNeil (Husband Peter Mc-Neil), His grandson Herbert E. Tedford IV and Spencer Y. Tedford. His step grandchildren Chloe J. Tedford and Pheobe and Alex Hester.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12205 in the name of Herb's cherished dog of 17 years, Moe.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the entire staff at the Albany County Nursing Home for their kind compassionate care of Herb for the last 8 months.
Funeral service for Herb will be Tuesday, Apr 23, 2013 at 10:00 am at the New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
