LATHAM, NY – Herbert P. Riley, 73, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2010 under the care of hospice at the V.A. Medical Center in Albany. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late John and Gertrude Riley. He was a Capital District resident for all of his life. Mr. Riley was a U. S. Marine Corps Sergeant serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and many other service medals. Herb first worked for Corvette's Department Stores and then the Albany County Nursing Home as Chief of Security. He then worked as a dental technician before his retirement. He was a member of the Colonie Elks Lodge #2192 and the American Legion Joseph E. Zaloga Post #1520. Herb was an avid fisherman and enjoyed participating in Texas Hold 'Em Tournaments. He is the beloved husband of twenty eight years to Patricia A. Riley. He is the father of Cindi (Jay) Bauer of Albany. Herb is the brother of Miriam Riley McMahon of Troy and the late John W. Riley and Gertrude Riley Shovah. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the service from 9:30 to 11:30 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
