COLONIE – Hilda R. Baillargeon-Varady, 85, of Colonie, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Albany Medical Center.
Born in Vienna Austria, she was the youngest of 13 children, however; she was raised in Catholic orphanages in the Alps of Ramsau. Her beloved sister Fini took her out at age 14 during World War II. She married an American GI and became a war bride. They settled in Burlington, VT and had a daughter Christine. Hilda later moved to Albany, NY where she enjoyed working in food service for many years.
She remarried and acquired two stepsons, Attila and Almos. She is predeceased by her second husband Attila Varady Jr. and stepson, Almos. She is survived by her daughter Christine (John) Straight and stepson, Attila Varady III. She also leaves behind many beloved "familie" in Austria and Texas.
She was an excellent cook and famous for her Wiener Schnitzel and Hildaburgers. She loved her Viennese waltzes, time spent at the Hungarian Hall and German Club dances and events. She also enjoyed traveling the country with the War Bride Association and swimming at the Senior Center.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 4 to 6 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
