SCHENECTADY – Hilde Hilborn, age 100, died of old age on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center.
Born in Berlin, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Matilda Wagner Paul.
She is survived by her son, Peter of Schenectady, three grandchildren, Kenneth Hilborn (wife Audrey) of Lake Villa, IL, Kathryn Dishon (husband Kenneth) of Huntington, CT and Julie Taylor (husband Douglas) of Plantsville, CT and seven great grandchildren.
Hilde was the widow of Selmar Hilborn who died in 1988. The family emigrated to the United States in 1939 to live in the borough of Manhattan in the Washington Heights area of NYC and subsequently relocated to Ft. Lee, NJ. Operating out of her home, she developed over the years a successful catering business, specializing in the preparation of fanciful and artistic types of hors d'oeuvres – or canapés as they were then called – for delivery to private parties that were held throughout the city. After the passing of her husband, Hilde moved to Schenectady in 1994 where she took up residence at the Kingsway Manor Assisted Living Facility and transferred to the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in 2004.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center at 357 Kings Road in Schenectady on Friday, January 12, 2007 at 10 a.m. Those desiring to make a contribution in her memory may do so to a charity of their choosing.
