Hilliard Austin Piper, Sr, 88, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 after a long illness. He was born on May 5, 1922 in Great Barrington, Mass., son of the late Barnard Sr. and Hazel Piper. Hilliard worked for over 45 years as a master interior/exterior decorator and contractor. He painted the town red. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a decorated VFW Veteran.
Hilliard is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Anna L. Piper and six children; Hilliary, Hilliard Jr. (Michele), Audrey (Leon), Russell (Shirley), Hazel and Andrea (Warren); twenty one grandchildren and forty three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 am at the Israel AME Church, 381 Hamilton Street, Albany. A calling hour will precede the service from 9 to 10 at the Church. Interment will follow the service at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
