Guilderland - Hope Margaret Gillespie, 82, passed away peacefully, Wednesday December 9, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Hope was born January 4, 1927 in North Troy, the daughter of the late Waldo and Helen Chase. She attended School #1 in Troy, graduated from Troy High and earned her Associates Degree from Troy Business School. After school, Hope moved to New York City where she spent several years. She worked for State Bank of Albany and the New York State Department of Social Services. Hope enjoyed summers at Birch Haven on the Great Sacandaga Lake, traveling, family vacations and trips to the Racino (which were far too in frequent for Hope). She liked sewing, knitting, bowling and dancing but above all she cherished being with family and friends.
Hope is survived by her husband of 59 years Al, their children: Don, Gary (Mary Ellen) and Susan (Kevin), brother Frank Chase, grandchildren: Sean McCarthy, Kim McCarthy, Erin McCarthy, Patrick Gillespie, Bryan Gillespie and Cory Gillespie, great-grandson Tyler McCarthy, nephew Mike Marsolais and niece Diane Nowak.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to Shirley Street and Gail of the Albany County Community Hospice along with their associates Linda, Jennifer and Pat whom Hope cherished visits from daily and a special thanks to Joel Janzow for his support.
Funeral service will be Monday 11:00am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours, Sunday 2:00 to 6:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland, NY. To leave a special message for the family online visit, www.NewcomerAlbany.com
