CLIFTON PARK – Howard A. Walker entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 24, 2009 at his home. He just celebrated his 86th birthday on July 22nd.
Howard was born and raised in the South Shore area of Massachusetts. He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII. He was the last charter member for over 62 years of the Wampatuck Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons; where he entered February 14, 1947, passed March 21, 1947 and raised April 25, 1947. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star with his wife Thelma in Elmore, Ohio in the late 1950's. Howard had owned and operated the Elmore Star in the late 1950's and produced the weekly Elmore Star along with a monthly newspaper called the Hayseed. Last place of employment, Howard worked for the Hamilton Printing Co. in East Greenbush as a linotype operator. He was also a member of the Halfmoon Senior Center in Clifton Park. He was an avid reader and loved gardening and playing the organ. Above all, he loved his family.
Howard was predeceased by his beloved wife Thelma E. (Pratt) Walker; she passed away on June 9, 2009. He is the devoted father of Richard A. Walker and his wife, Zoraida, Dana G. Rafferty, Joyce L. Fitzgibbon and Debora A. Dundon and her husband, Alfred, 3rd. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Memorial Service on Thursday, September 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Rt. 146, Clifton Park. Entombment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church after the entombment and all are welcome to attend.
